Wednesday June 30th, part 2.

Dictated by Abby to Liz

The breakfast downstairs in the hotel lobby was very good. They had Hawaiian cheerios, which mom called Froot Loops.

Then we goed out and we got the keys to house and then we goed there. There is no upstairs and that is OK because sometimes it takes too long to go upstairs and you are in a hurry.

We went to get lunch at a Korean restaurant that is very close to our house. And then we went to the bank to start an account in Hawaii. We went to my new school and signed me up. They will say a week before school starts what class I am in. And then we went to the shopping mall and bought a lot of stuff for the kitchen and also mattresses to sleep on.

These new pictures are of Abby at her new school! We have heard great things about it from everyone we have talked to.

We ate dinner at a Shabu-shabu restaurant that is also very close to our new house. You get to pick out what you want to cook in a big soup pot. And then we comed home and goed to sleep.

From Liz:
We also saw the lab today. It is right on the water and you can see Diamondhead from the lab windows. It is stunning. That was the good news. The not so good news is that all our boxes with clothes, sheets, towels, etc. were supposed to be there already and none have showed up yet.
Addition: I have posted some pictures here. The building shown in these pictures is the lab where Steve and I will be working. The other pictures are the view from outside the lab!! Stunning!
Other good news is that there are places here to shop to buy the things that we need. The not so good news is that it is going to take a week for our new mattresses to get to our house - they make them to order (here on Oahu) and it takes a few days....I feel like I should have thought about that before and pre-ordered them from Swarthmore. Oh well.....

The house is great, although currently quite UNfurnished. The location is also quite good - there is a large grocery store, drugstore and lots of restaurants in a shopping center walking distance from the house.

Also: very sad not to have even a single emergency contact to list on Abby's school information form. Obviously, we hope not to need such a thing, but pretty striking to realize that we really know no one to list for this sort of thing. We are enjoying our adventure, but do miss our friends and family already!

Arrived! Tired, but excited.

Went for for a great Noodle dinner, and now woke up the next morning, ready to go.

DAY #1: Dictated by Abby to Liz
We got on the plane to Houston, then we got on another plane to go from Houston to Honolulu. Daddy said it was 8 hours. And I was bored. There was a TV but it was far away from us. But we had a remote control. And we had our backpacks and other stuff overhead because there was no seat in front of us. In the middle of the trip on the plane, me and Zachary switched spots. I goed where Daddy was sitting, Daddy goed where Zach was sitting, Zach goed where I was sitting and Mom just stayed in her spot.

When we went to get our suitcases, I got a flower lei and it was real flowers but Zachary didn’t know it was real flowers until he sniffed it. It had a strong smell. They were purple and white.

The temperature was really good. And windy. Not too hot and not too cold. It was hot but the wind was blowing. It was fun. We are staying at a hotel for two nights. We walked around and had a very good dinner of ramen noodles and I ate a lot. I still need to practice with my chopsticks. We goed to the beach and got soaked from the waves. The hotel had lemonade and fruit punch.
